How To Get Interested Readers To Your Business Blog

Blogging for business is successful for a number of reasons and the top one in my book is the publication of regular fresh content, which keeps your visitors coming back and grabs the attention of the search engines.

However, it is a bit of a slow burn.

Yes, you want more traffic to your business blog, and you can pay for it by doing some search engine optimisation, running an adwords campaign, and advertising on high traffic web sites.  But traffic is just numbers, whereas business bloggers want buyers, and these are two very different beasties.

If you're prepared to put in a bit of time and thought, then here are some marvelous ways to bring targeted traffic into your busienss blog.  I'm saying you need thought because each of these methods brings you directly into contact with your potential client, and first impressions count.  You are looking to solve their problem with a solution that entices them to your blog.

And the definition of someone with a problem and a bit of cash who is seeking a solution, is a buyer.

3 Ways To Promote Your Business Blog

Guest Posting

This is where you hunt out high traffic websites and blogs in your niche (so yes these might be your competitors) and write good content for them to post on their site.  This works because quality and relevant content are the challenge for all bloggers, and you are helping them out. The owner of the blog you are writing for gets to demonstrate they can bring in outside experts, and you get to be positioned as that expert.

Blog Commenting

Your comment must be relevant to the post and bring something to the party going on at that blog.  Just commenting, 'great post' and hoping to get a link back is wishful thinking.  Plus, the readers are hadly going to be bowled over by your startling insight into the issue.  Offer a differing viewpoint, agree with the post but add a bit of a different angle.  You need to be very skilled to completely disagree with the post content if you want to avoid coming across as agressive.  And trust me you do.

You do need your name and link back to your site (or at least the mention of your site) in your author details.

If you are going to be commenting on blogs, do make sure you have a Gravatar so your photo and website will automatically appear when you pop your email in.

Forum Posting

This is similar to posting blog comments but with a bit more hoo-ha involved.  However, the returns are potentially greater because forums are often stuffed with people who have specifically posted their exact problem because they are looking for a solution. Even if you don't get traffic from it, you're going to get some good ideas for content and products for yourself.

Some forums require you to register before you can post and many will not allow you to insert your link directly into your forum post.  Some will let you set up a bio, or signature, which includes your photo, a short bit about you and a link to your site or an email.

It's the same deal as with the blog commenting.  Make your comments genuinely helpful, relevant and responding to problems, which have already been posted, and you will start to build up visitors.

Conversely, overtly self promotional posts will get you ousted by the forum moderator and no-one will visit your blog because you're just a show-off.

Before you spend yonks registering with a forum do check how many replies they are getting to posts (this will give you an idea of the number of forum members you can potentially interact with) and also the dates of the last posts.  Forums have a habit of fizzling out and you don't want to waste time registering to take part in the next Marie Celeste Forum.

Running a business blog is about building relationships  with potential buyers and you can use these three methods to get that relationship started right from the outset.

Happy posting.

PS. If you're wondering were on earth Social Networks have got to in this post – that's a topic for a whole different post so use the subscribe at the top to get regular updates.
